Design e ficodindia : per uno sviluppo locale sostenibile
2017
The article describes the relationsh…
Design e cibo tra cultura e identità
2017
The paper proposes the cultural aspects of food and the relationship between design and food. Reflections are articulated on how food represents the identity of a people and how food is a vehicle for conservation, innovation and socialization. The cultural aspects of food are many: food tells the story of the territory and its products, the rituals and the symbols of the gastronomic tradition. Today, food in a territory also becomes an expression of values to be promoted and design can bring new opportunities. The design culture, using its tools, starts a virtuous cycle between product and territory and can carry out the regeneration of the territory and the sustainable development of econo…

Evaluating the Sustainability in Complex Agri-Food Systems: The SAEMETH Framework
2015
During the last few years, the definition of sustainability and the translation of its general principles into practical and operative tasks have come into the foreground of scientific research and political agendas throughout the world. The understanding and the evaluation of the environmental, social and economic performances of complex agricultural food systems is probably the real challenge, and the design of more sustainable alternatives has been recognized as necessary for a correct territorial management. This study’s primary goal is the proposition of an interpretive structure “Sustainable Agri-Food Evaluation Methodology” (SAEMETH), able to guide the evaluation of the sustainabilit…

The COVID-19 Crisis, Human Rights and Unfair Models of Production: The Case of Migrant Workers in the Agri-food Sector in European Countries
2022
Since its outbreak, the COVID-19 crisis has sharply exacerbated the structural inequalities that characterize the socioeconomic systems of European Union (EU) countries, disproportionately impacting people most affected by discrimination and social exclusion. The Covid-19 crisis has also brought under the spotlight the significant role of migrant workers in core sectors – such as the agri-food sector – disclosing how they are fundamental in the economic and societal functioning of EU countries. At the same time, the pandemic has sharply disclosed the limits of long supply chains (in terms of price distortion, unfair competition and distribution dynamics), as well as the conditions of exploi…
Inter-organizational relationships in agri-food sector: a bibliometric review and future directions
2022
PurposeThe current competitive system, complex and rapidly changing, knowledge represents one of the main strategic resources for organizations. Agri-food organizations, traditionally characterized by low-knowledge management (KM) practices, are facing several challenges that require new knowledge to improve performance and their ability to survive. Since agri-food organizations are low-propensity R&D, they are forced into a collaborative approach and the creation of inter-organizational relationships (IORs) for knowledge transfer. The purpose of this study is to offer an overview of the academic literature on knowledge transfer within scientific institutions and agri-food organizations…
THE DEVELOPMENT AND FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY OF A TOURIST NETWORK FOR A COASTAL REGION
2016
This study springs from a reflection on the concept of the Slow Network as a tool to strengthen the connection between a territory and its inhabitants, through the rediscovery of the agro-environmental, landscape, historical, artistic, and cultural value of each territory. Creating a slow network means utilising slow mean of mobility thus creating a "greenway" to give life to an ecomuseum and to cultural tourism in an eco-sustainable manner. The resources of an area are enhanced by creating a synergy between them, the tourism industry, and the local economy, which is dedicated to the promotion of an integrated tourism that involves rural areas, natural areas, eno gastronomic tours, and them…
Determinants of Italy's agri-food trade flows with the Mediterranean non-Eu partner countries
2013
The objective of this paper is to evaluate the determinants of Italy’s agri-food exports in the markets of Mediterranean non-EU partner countries and, particularly, the impact of Agreement Association signed in the Euro-Mediterranean partnership. The Mediterranean Sea situated at the crossroad of three continents, the European, the Asian and the African one, has ever been of great strategic interest for several geo-economical powers and in particular of the European Union as one of its foreign policy main protagonists. Italy as a centred Mediterranean country which is sharing agri-food production with some Mediterranean partners could profit from the EU’s relationships with the partners of …
